Meh, hindsight without context always leads to this. We didn't keep him because we had Chiellini, Bonucci, De Ligt and Demiral at the time. Out of the two rugged defenders Demiral seemed like the best bet of the two but he did his ACL and hasn't really improved so far. Problem is we ended up...

Because officially he's still on loan from us? Atalanta have to sign him from us first before they can sell him.

    Cristian Romero

Spuds fans will expect him to be established world class for that fee. I can see him playing for Roma in two seasons.

Everything is inflated for English teams, including what they buy for. Agents and clubs aren't stupid. If we had been selling Romero directly to United he would have gone for a lot more, but we did this weird tied in deal with Atalanta.

He's got the rona and misses their game with Lazio.

With the loan fee it's €20m but the answer is fairly easy - he wasn't that great at Genoa, and current financial climate. It is rare that we lose money on these deals for younger players, usually we break even at least. Also, to be clear, that was his best game by far this season, marking Ibra...

    Glad we cleared that up.

Transfer fees are always dictated by the standing and financial position of the negotiating teams. For example if we were to try to buy the same Demiral now from Sassuolo we'd never get him for €18m.

Presuming that they are paying for the loan plus an obligation worth at least €23m. Extending his contract with us for a year...this all adds up to decent plusvalenza in the end.

I think that is delayed a season.

    Cristian Romero

Possibly. You'd think we might want/need the money now.

Says on there "he will not be sold outright".

    Cristian Romero

Exchanging for someone in a position we need would be useful.

Replacing Rugani would be a no brainer were it not for the CL squad list issue. Romero may not be perfect but he's a rugged and proactive defender, not a passive mouse like Rugani.

    Cristian Romero

Unfortunately there's no point in him returning until 2021, presuming Chiellini retires. Look how many minutes Rugani gets.
  16. JuveJay

    Cristian Romero

He's scored a hat-trick in each game against Genoa this season :howler: Idiots obviously don't learn.

    Cristian Romero

It's about time Genoa got relegated anyway.

    Cristian Romero

Never had the same kind of personality, mobility, or defensive flair - Rugani is a very "stand up" defender, whereas Nesta could jockey or make flying sliding tackles. Still my biggest regret for one that got away from us. I see Kumbulla as being a bit like Rugani in the way he defends, but he...

    Cristian Romero

As good as Kumbulla is, he's not even close to being a priority when we already have so much DC depth. Unless Rugani and/or Romero is leaving. I know we like to have control of many of the best young DCs but we also need a working midfield.
