I visited Andric's house in Montenegro which is the only house he built during his life. I also met some artist working there so we spent like 2 hours talking to him where he provided us with some details of his life during his 5 year stay there. It was brilliant.

I will move in several months and my new gig will be filled with books. Currently they are all over the place, including floor. I had no idea I'd need so much money for making shelves.

You read Marai and/or Imre? I think about getting Fatelessness soon. I'm also having György Konrád on the radar.

Never tried any "serious" book. I always doubted my vocabulary when it comes to high literature. I also hate ebooks. But that book sounds really interesting. Btw, what do you recommend from Hugarian literature?

Been reading quite a lot this year. Recently I went with Shakespeare (Macbeth and King Lear). Reading Bruno Schulz was delightful, he's incredible and magical. I also enjoyed more books from Pekic who's one of my fav writers surely. Right now I'm on As I Lay Dying.

You either never tried it or you're a genius beyond us mere mortals. I'd rather not read than understand half of the book, though.

I can't say about that book but as for others I'd say insanely important. It just helps you grasp the whole work entirely different and you get to appreciate the thought behind it being so layered and covered with knowledge.

Fair enough. I was more referring to Faust, Lost Paradise and such stuff, since they are new(er) and all connect to specific things that one simply can't be aware of. So there are plenty of verses that you think are simply, yet they are connected to 10 more stuff, giving it layers over layers.

What's the point in reading if you understand half of it?

I think such books shouldn't be read on their own but with another book/rated analysis. I think plenty of stuff can't be digested without a proper dig and deeper study into it and since some people devoted their life studying and writing a book/study about it, I think it's perfect to grab a...

I came across an interesting guy. Dunno if you're familiar but it's Ted Chiang. Guy who wrote a short story which they used to make Arrival. He has some great short stories. I recommend reading Hell is the Absence of God and Understand. I found both on Internet for free. @Post Ironic...

Seeing it's December I'd say I had a very good reading year. Plenty of top notch quality books, analysis, and short reviews written. Although I was more focused on quality and details rather than quantity unlike in some years.

Second Body. I got it as a gift not so long ago and together with Khazars and Landscape it should his finest work.

Literally what he said. Listen to him. I'll add one, underrated work of his: The Journey to the East. You should read it. And if you want some magic in your book, you should read Milorad Pavic.

October is always a month when publishers give quite big discounts. Im making a list and thinking about stealing money.
