    They lose agility because the cruciate ligament is involved in the lateral movement of the knee so if the knee doesn't return to 100% they will lose a degree of flexibility and ability to change direction from it. I don't know about speed. That's usually muscle related.

    Unfortunately, this doesn't mean much really. You can still even jog somewhat with a torn knee ligament. But hopefully he's okay.
