I'd still go for Mascherano. He's not a typical DM, he's pretty capable of controlling the pitch and might be the kind of compromise Ranieri needs. Perhaps a midfield like this next season: Giovinco/VDV-Mascherano-Zanetti/Sissoko-Camoranesi with Marchisio and Nocerino as needed.

You ideally want balance... I agree. But if Ranieri wants to play 2 DMs, then one may as well be Mascherano... at least he's skillful and can make plays.

I still am a Gattuso fan... but he's definitely losing it... Its not as apparent when playing alongside Pirlo... but for crying out loud, Pirlo is so good, he'd make me look like a decent midfielder.
