    [ITA] Serie A 2007/2008

To say nothing of Serie B, Milan losing out on the Champions' League would be a near disaster for Italian football. At the moment the Rossoneri remain the only credible force that is keeping Italy up there with the seemingly indomitable Spain and the emergent English sides. Inter has produced...

Jose Mourinho. Do we need him?

I would be delighted to see Mourinho coach in Italy, at Juventus or Inter in particular. He would give Serie A a much needed shot in the arm IMHO. He would bring alot more character and flavour to the league if nothing else, and he's as proven a manager and tactician as any I've seen at his age.

    Tiago Mendes

We would be the laughingstock of Europe in January if we were to offload Tiago, I assure you. When was the last time you heard of a top flight team offloading their most high profile (not to mention expensive) summer transfer 4 months into the new season?

Calciopoli or Morattopoli.. inter fake orgasm

Tell me then gsol, what did Juventus do to clear its supposedly good name? Why, after the initial verdict of a points deduction cum demotion to Serie B, did the Juve lawyers plead for a reduced sentence, stating that relegation alone would be punishment enough for the "crime"? That is as good as...

Not if the first punishment is deemed inproportionate to the crime.

    The Official Marco Marchionni thread

Nedved's got flair now? Not to be a dampner, Pavel has alot of things in abundance but certainly not flair. He is far more industrious than most playmakers, committed in the challenge, packs a punch from range and is excellent with both feet but that doesn't give him flair. He doesn't throw in...

Oh come on now, surely nobody can be deemed a flop less than 10 games into their first seasons.

I could go on and on about how we haven't given our youngsters enough of a chance, but if you're looking for the answer to why we can't allow our players to develop as Messi and Dos Santos have done then its simply because none of them come close. You could argue that we wouldn't have an...

    Gilberto Silva

Gilberto is a very capable player in his own right, but why are we concerned with a player who plays in a position in which we have a surplus of personnel at the moment? There are a number of more pressing issues at hand, namely the need for a centreback to lead the backline and eventually...

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Del Piero: To start on the pitch or on the bench.

Both IMO. There are matches where Del Piero's presence in the side will bring some much needed experience and it is in those matches that he should start; primarily those in Europe (next season) or against the likes of Inter or Milan where youngsters such as Palladino are likely to be overawed...

    Mourinho Quits Chelsea!

I'm personally not too impressed with Avram Grant. The people he's worked with have given him rather lukewarm endorsement of his credentials, with his predecessor in the Israeli NT stating that he is "great at PR but knows very little about football". Only time will tell what Roman Abramovich...

    Fernando Cavenaghi

His former teammate and Argentinean compatriot D'Alessandro similarly went the less-trodden path with lukewarm results. It's anyone's guess whether they'd have met with a similar fate in Italy had Juve's advances proved successful.

    Mourinho Quits Chelsea!

I would personally be delighted to see Mourinho at the Nerazzuri helm, if for nothing else to add some colour and life to the dearth of personality in Italy's big teams at the moment. Serie A badly needs the shot in the arm. Besides, Morratti's one of the very few capable of bankrolling Mourinho...

    Sebastian Giovinco

Unfortunately these things do happen, and I'm not unduly surprised. First of all Juve may be paying the players' wages while they're on loan (I don't know the exact details of the loan deals, regrettably) and therefore from a financial point of view there isn't a need to justify money spent, and...

    Mourinho Quits Chelsea!

Its official that Avram Grant and assistant manager Steve Clark are to take over the reins for now, IMO it will be dependent on results as to whether the appointment will turn out to be permanent though. Rather untimely sacking(or resignation, depending on who you believe), though I will not...

    Sebastian Giovinco

Simply because they don't have better players for the position in question. Certainly that's the motivation behind most loan deals, and if loaned players get less playtime than expected then it can only be blamed on a lack of foresight on Juve's part.

    Sebastian Giovinco

There isn't particularly any one player on loan at the moment who could make a big enough impact to warrant a recall per se, but my point is that the way in which we loan out players doesn't do them or the team much good in the long run. I'm not lobbying for any of the loaned players to be...

    [Serie A] Juventus v Udinese [2007-09-16]

Judging from the pre-match press I would not be surprised in the least if we were to trip against Udinese. It sets a bad precedent with the coach talking about the Roma fixture on the eve of a match against another team, and the optimism is beginning to phase into an aloof complacency. What...

    Books you're reading

Recently concluded Mark Winegardner's sequels to Puzo's Godfather trilogy. Besides the fact that they were great books, Mark really does a stellar job in demonstrating how to write a follow-up to what is perhaps one of the most chronicled novels of all time. He shows no signs of intimidation at...
