Tell us about software you currently used in your computer. Some people will find this useful when they are looking for particular software, eg: image viewer, etc...

OS:
- Microsoft Windows XP SP2

Video Playback :
- Windows Media Player 6.4
- Cyberlink Power DVD (for DVD Playback)

Audio playback:
- Winamp 2.91 (I like this old version, If things ain't broke, don't fix it)

Image viewer:
- Irfanview (one of the best freeware I've ever seen)

Image Editing:
- Adobe PhotoShop CS

Multimedia codec:
- XVID Codec
- Divx Codec
- Matroska Full Pack(required to play mkv file. I'm too lazy to analyze every single codec needed, so I installed it all)

Audio CD to MP3 converter:
- Easy cd-da extractor 7

PVR software:
- Winfast PVR , this software rocks.I'm able to encode TV program into any codec format I like(Divx,xvid,wmv,etc..) not just the basic mpeg1 and mpeg2 .Unfortunately this software only compatible with Leadtek TV Tuner products.

Video editing:
- VirtualDub , if you are working with avi format, this software will suit you perfectly,It can reencode mpeg and avi format to avi format(sometimes you'll want to reencode avi files to reduce it's file size, etc). you can split, merge, and many more with this software. there's no special effect you can add though. if you're looking for special effect maybe you have to look for software such as
- XMpeg to convert dvd(.ifo) to avi format (you need to get rid of the protection first, Dvd Decrypter is very good at this)
- DVD decrypter to rip dvd.

Spyware removal:
- ADAware
- Spybot

cd/dvd burning:
- Ahead Nero Burning Rom 6.6.

Browser:
- IE
- Firefox
I use IE more, but when I surf into danger zone,I'll use Firefox.

CD/DVD emulation
- Alcohol 120%

Dictionary
- Dr Eye 2004( english , chinese and Japan dictionary)

Download manager
- Download Accelerator 7. (can someone recommend a good freeware for this?)
- Bitcomet (for downloading bittorrent)
- Ezpeer( local p2p software in taiwan).

Utility
- winrar
- Switch off( turn off your computer at specified time)
- WakeMeUP (play mp3 sound at specified time, it sure is better than using my hp as alarm since the max sound is up to your speaker)
- Parallel Port Joystick( driver to manage you ps joystick).
- Logitech ITouch(good to maximize my Cordless Freedom Keyboard)
- Palm Desktop( to synchronize data on my old palm with PC)

Well it's not Windows software so I'm not sure it would be useful to you ;)
Martin, did you build your Linux from scratch? I used to try LFS because I want to understand Linux better. but I gave up halfway.
if not ,what distro are you using?

No I have yet to try LFS, it sounds very time consuming. I use Gentoo Linux. :)

    Software? Hmmm...

All of my software I bought for a total of $5. That includes Acrobat 6 Pro, Photoshop, latest Dreamweaver, latest Office, and all kinds of other latest stuff.

I view porn mainly on WIndows Media Player 10, watch the CL on quicktime, listen to music on itunes and use the start/shut down function to turn off my computer.

you can get XP pretty easily
I'm changing computers altogether providing what I just put together works. Just waiting on XP that I ordered OEM ($80.......but I'm still pissed.....suprnova would've helped here).

What did you have in mind though? How would I've gotten a copy?

And Bes.....what the heck is an Asian mall? I've asked a few people and they didn't have any.

I guess the free Matlab and Solidworks compensate for that. :D I'll keep telling myself that. :groan:
