(CNN)NASA is tantalizing the world with big Mars news.

It says a mystery enshrouding the Red Planet has been solved.

The space agency is scheduled to announce a "major science finding" on Monday.

A special news conference is slated for 11:30 a.m. ET, and will be broadcast live on NASA Television as well as its website.

NASA on Thursday announced on social media that it would reveal news of a Mars discovery, sending space fans into a speculation frenzy.

Ps. the date is wrong. It's actually the 28th, tomorrow.

I knew we would find them in my lifetime. And people are losing their hair over a Football team pffft.

Didn't know it was confirmed. So you really think it's evidence of life?
We know that there's water trapped at the poles that can be extracted. If it's another water-related announcement, I would be disappoint -- because that's been done largely already.

So I have to partly guess it might have to do with finding past evidence of amino acids or some basic life building block there. Maybe not definitively telling us past life existed there, but certainly suggesting a leap of evidence over the old water mystery.

I gotta say that such a publicity gag "we've got super super special interesting news - on monday" is a little bit unbecoming for a serious scientifical organisation such as NASA :D

But if it gets them more attention & funds, I guess it's justified somewhat.

It's funny because what gives them a nerdgasm doesn't interest the average person.

Nasa: "We've found flowing water on Mars"

Bonehead: "So what, I can turn a tap and get that"
