Stefan Savić (Serbo-Croatian pronunciation: [stɛ̂faːn sâʋitɕ]) (Serbian: Стефан Савић, born 8 January 1991) is a Montenegrin footballer who plays for Serie A club Fiorentina and the Montenegro national football team. Savić is a centre-back who primarily plays on the right side of the pitch.

Club career

Career in Serbia

Savić began his professional career with BSK Borča during the 2008–09 season. In early 2010, he was on a 10-day trial with Arsenal. According to Savić, he had agreed to join Arsenal in the summer, but the transfer never went through.

On 29 August 2010, it was announced that Savić had signed for FK Partizan on a four-year contract and was given the number 15 shirt.

Manchester City

On 6 July 2011, Savić signed a four-year contract for Manchester City In a £6 million deal.

He made his debut against Swansea City on 15 August 2011 and came on as a substitute, making a solid start to his career at the Etihad Stadium.

During Manchester City's 2–0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium Savić was substituted on and subsequently cleared a goal-bound shot off the line. On 1 October 2011, he came off the bench and scored his first goal for the club in a 4–0 victory away to Blackburn Rovers, heading in the fourth goal off a corner from Samir Nasri.

Throughout centre back Vincent Kompany's four-match ban from 11 to 25 January, Savić replaced Kompany as City's starting XI defender in the right centre back position, with third-choice Kolo Touré away on international duty with Côte d'Ivoire in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Although Savić showed brief flashes of form in this time, he showed many instances of nervousness resulting in frequent misplaced passes, clearances, and crucially conceded a penalty against Liverpool in a League Cup match, resulting in a Liverpool win at home. He even gifted the equalising goal via a poor first touch to Jermain Defoe in City's very close 3–2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at home. With Kompany's return to the starting team, Savić returned to the bench.

Savić returned to first team play on 4 February, as Kompany obtained a knee injury prior to kick off, against Fulham, where he helped City to a comfortable 3–0 win. Later against Swansea when Vincent Kompany was injured and manager Roberto Mancini rested Joleon Lescott. Despite having a fairly good game, in the 83rd minute, a poor pass from Savić was intercepted high up the field leaving Swansea on the counter-attack. This led to a headed goal that was the winner in a 1–0 defeat. His last game was in the 3–2 win against Sporting Lisbon. He ended that season with 11 league appearances, enough for a medal, as Manchester City won the 2011-12 Premier League in dramatic circumstances on the last day of the season.

He was one of the few City players who played in all 5 competitions throughout the season.

Fiorentina

On 31 August 2012, Serie A club Fiorentina signed Savić. This was part of a deal for Manchester City to sign Matija Nastasić. On 2 December 2012, he scored his first and second goal in Italy in a 2–2 draw at home to Sampdoria. He was given the number 15 at Fiorentina

International career

Savić has represented Montenegro at every youth level, including under-17, under-19, and under-21 teams. He made his international debut for the senior team in a friendly match against Northern Ireland on 11 August 2010. Savić provided the cross for the equalising goal against England in a 2–2 draw to allow Montenegro to qualify from their Euro 2012 group.
Personal life

Stefan's father Dragan was the mayor of Mojkovac when he committed suicide on 6 April 2011 when Stefan was only 20 years old. Subsequently, the Delije ultras, who are otherwise not known for being sympathetic to people associated with Partizan, held up a transparent which said "Support for Stefan Savić" after the loss of his father.

Tuttosport say we're 'nearing' the exchange involving Isla and Savic and that he could be Allegri's first reinforcement.
