Angelo Obinze Ogbonna (born 23 May 1988 in Cassino, Province of Frosinone) is an Italian footballer of Nigerian descent who plays as a centre back for Serie A club Juventus FC and the Italian National Team. He is considered one of the most promising defenders in Italy.

Club career

Born in Cassino from Nigerian descent, Ogbonna was noted by Torino scouts, and was later signed by the Granata youth academy. He made his Serie A and first-team debut on 11 February 2007 against Calcio .He then spent the 2007–08 season on loan to Serie C1 side Crotone.

In 2008–09, Ogbonna returned to Torino playing mostly as a backup defender to regulars Natali and Di Loreto. Starting from 2009, after the relegation of the club to Serie B, he earned his place as a starter, providing solid performances.

On 2 February 2012 he renewed the contract to 30 June 2016.

International career

On 12 August 2009, he made his debut with the Italy U-21 national team in a friendly game against Russia.

On 4 June 2011, he received his first senior squad call-up by coach Cesare Prandelli despite playing in Serie B. He is the first Torino player to be called up to the Azzurri since 2007. Following several injuries in the Azzurri squad, Ogbonna was called up again on 5 October 2011. He made his senior debut on 11 November 2011, in a friendly won 2–0 against Poland where he came on as substitute for Domenico Criscito in the 77th minute.

He has been included in the Italian team for the UEFA Euro 2012, but never played in any match during the competition.

Personal life

Ogbonna was born to Nigerian parents who immigrated to Italy in 1983, settling in the city of Cassino in the central part of the country, but managed to obtain Italian citizenship only after his 18th birthday.

On 22 December 2008 he survived a car accident near Turin, after he lost control of his Smart automobile and drove off a bridge into a torrent at around 5:00 am.

Welcome Angel, overrated yes and he will inevitably cause issues with our ultranationalist fans, but we really need some decent depth for the 3 man defense!
We could only sign Italians and among the Italians he was one of the best available solutions!
