Stephan Lichtsteiner believes this Friday’s Serie A showdown with Napoli represents an important moment of the season, but played down suggestions of the game being decisive in the race for the Scudetto crown.
Speaking to Rai Sport, the 29-year-old began: “There will still be 11 fixtures remaining, so this game won’t be decisive as far as the destiny of the title is concerned.
“It won’t be simple, Napoli are an excellent side and it’s difficult for anyone to play at the San Paolo. We’ll go there to impose our style of play and avoiding errors will be important.”
While Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik are frequently singled out by opposing teams as Napoli’s principal attacking threats, Lichtsteiner insists the title challengers are blessed with quality across the board.
“They are excellent footballers who are doing very well, as are the many Swiss players in the team. Napoli have plenty of individuals who are capable of making the difference and also possess a consolidated style of play. We’ll need to remain alert and prepare for the game as best we can.”
Juventus approach the encounter in high spirits after bouncing back from a narrow reverse at the hands of Roma with last Sunday’s morale-boosting 3-0 triumph over Siena.
And Lichtsteiner believes there is plenty of room for optimism ahead of Friday night’s clash in Naples.
“It’s normal to go through a sticky patch throughout the course of a season, in which the ball doesn’t seem to want to go in, while the opposition score with their first attempt. It happened, but we’ve done well to put it behind us.”
