Siena boss Giuseppe Iachini has challenged his players to claim their third big-name scalp in as many weeks when they line up against Antonio Conte’s league leaders at Juventus Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
The 48-year-old has masterminded an impressive upturn in fortunes since taking control of the relegation threatened side in December and is looking to build on recent wins over Lazio and Inter by upsetting the odds in Turin.
“Our positive run is down to the work we undergo every day on the training ground,” Iachini told reporters at a pre-match press conference in Tuscany.
“We’re gaining results and producing a good quality brand of football. We’ll keep going with the knowledge that we can also count on the support of our public who must remain with us right until the end."
Iachini believes the Bianconeri represent the sternest threat to his team’s recent run of form and has called for a composed display in the heat of a bumper crowd at Juventus Stadium.
But the former Sampdoria chief was quick to dismiss suggestions that Siena would sit back and play for a goalless draw, insisting his men are also capable of seizing the initiative in attack.
He added: “We’ll respect our extremely strong opposition, but we won’t take to the field looking for a 0-0, that would be a serious mistake. We’ll give it a go as always, trying to be alert in defence but also looking to ask some questions when going forward.
“Juventus have shown themselves to be a true force over the past year and a half. They have quality players and a proven style of play. We’ll need to play the perfect game, giving away as little as possible.”
