Despite showing early promise on their travels following September’s commendable 2-0 away success over Inter, Siena have found wins hard to come by as they seek to haul themselves clear of the relegation zone.
The victory over the Nerazzurri represents the Tuscan side’s only away triumph to date, with three draws and eight defeats comprising the remainder of their record outside of the Artemio Franchi.
After silencing the San Siro through second half goals from Simone Vergassola and Francesco Valiani, Siena were forced to wait until early November before bringing an end to their barren run on the road by claiming a point in a 0-0 draw against Parma.
Another goalless shutout with Chievo in Verona appeared to signal an upturn in the team’s fortunes away from home, only for defeats against Fiorentina, Milan, Torino and Udinese to plunge them back into relegation difficulties before the slide was briefly averted with a 1-1 draw in Bologna.
Despite their overall troublesthis campaign, Siena approach Sunday’s meeting with Juventus on the back of recent spell of good form which has yielded three victories from five games courtesy of home successes over Sampdoria, Inter and Lazio.
