The Primavera’s defence of the Viareggio Cup will move into crunch territory with Tuesday afternoon’s first knockout game of the tournament against Juve Stabia.
The last 16 encounter, to be contested on the synthetic surface at Pontedera’s Stadio Mannucci, will kick off at 3pm.
Having passed through the group stages courtesy of wins over Maribor (4-2) and Avellino (2-1) and a goalless draw against A.P.I.A. Leichhardt, Baroni’s side will aim to seal a quarter-final place by seeing off their fellow countrymen tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s opponents Juve Stabia have enjoyed an impressive start to their first ever Viareggio tournament, striking 11 goals in the three games contested to date.
The Bianconeri, meanwhile, earned their place in the latter stages of the competition by registering six strikes in the group stages, five of which stemmed from in-form frontman Eric Lanini, currently joint-top scorer alongside Budapest striker Bobal.
Last Friday’s 0-0 shutout with A.P.I.A. Leichhardt brought an end to the team’s run of 28 consecutive fixtures on the scoresheet.
Juventus, who will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak consisting of eight wins and two draws, will be confident of emerging victorious on a lucky date as far as their Viareggio Cup fortunes are concerned.
From the eight games contested on 19 February, Juventus have won four, drawn three and lost just one.
