The statistics clearly indicate that last night’s loss was one decided by an individual moment of brilliance from the Roma captain rather than sustained dominance from the home side. It was an evenly matched game in which the Bianconeri were superior in a number of key areas, but lacked incisiveness and failed to produce the usual number of chances.
The visiting side did have control of the ball for the majority of the match. Conte’s men had the lion’s share of possession, with 57%, leaving Roma with just 43%. Juve also recorded 626 passes at 69.1% accuracy whereas the Giallorossi could only manage 537 at 62.4%.
Despite controlling the midfield battle for much of the 90 minutes, Juventus attacks only produced 7 (3 on target) efforts on goal. On the other hand, Andreazzoli’s team had 11 (4 on target) shots throughout the encounter.
Caceres shone with regard to individual statistics. He was successful in defence, recovering the ball on 24 occasions and also completed the most passes over the course of the match, with 69 to his name.
The Uruguayan defender even registered 11 more passes than Pirlo, which may suggest that the midfieldmaestro'seffectiveness was somewhat limited after sustaining a blow to the knee from Totti in the first half.
