Club career

Born in Aliança, Hernanes is a product of the São Paulo academy and has played for them since 2001. He was loaned out to Santo André for the 2006 season. In 2008, as a São Paulo player, Hernanes won the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão's best player award.
In January 2009, Hernanes was listed as the most promising football player in the world by the British newspaper, The Times.

Lazio

On 6 August 2010, São Paulo agreed to sell Hernanes to Lazio. Hernanes signed a five-year contract. Lazio also paid €11.1 million to São Paulo and third-parties owner Traffic Group. He scored on his debut, putting away a penalty in a practice match against Deportivo La Coruña, having previously been brought down in the box. He also assisted Sergio Floccari for Lazio's third goal. His first Serie A goal was also on a penalty, against Bologna in another 3–1 victory. On 3 December 2010 he scored the third goal in a 3–1 win over Internazionale with a free kick. He concluded the season with 11 goals equal to Lazio's best midfielder's goal scorer in one season, superstar Czech international Pavel Nedved.
The 2012–13 season has seen Hernanes with Miroslav Klose become a formidable pair. Lazio, who currently sit second in the Serie A standings have found in Hernanes a good luck charm, where they have not lost a game when the Brazilian international scored. Hernanes has become a pivotal part of the Lazio squad, especially under new Lazio coach Vladimir Petković, where he starts week and week out playing consistently amongst Lazio's best. His goal scoring record is also improved as well as vision and gameplay.

International career

Hernanes received his first International red card in a game against France after challenging for the ball against Karim Benzema mid-air but accidentally missing the ball and getting Benzema in the right area of his chest.

Hernanes is a fantastic player if he's on his game. I'd love to have him within our mids, but I guess Lazio will only sell him to Juventus for a crazy amount of cash. Bound to fail...

I dont like him. He is talented but he needs to play as an attacking midfielder more than a central one. He cannot substitute for Pirlo at all. The only player that can play as a deep lying midfielder is Alonso and maybe just maybe modric

Couple of papers mentioned it but forget him here. Lotito will ask for the moon even if his contacts ends soon. We'll look for cheaper and younger options like Quintero and others.
