Two wins, two draws and five defeats. Eight points is Sampdoria's haul away from the Marassi in the current Serie A campaign. They have scored 12 times on their travels (eight at home), while letting in 17 (ten at the Marassi).
Sampdoria started the season on fire, coming away from the San Siro with a narrow victory on the opening day: Costa's headed goal was enough to claim three points against AC Milan. Ciro Ferrara's charges continued their early season form in their second away game, earning another three points at Pescara. 2-3 was the final score with Maxi Lopez hitting two and former Juve player Estigarribia adding the third. Another excellent away result came in Week 5 at the Stadio Olimpico. Samp responded well after Totti had given Roma the lead and after the restart Munari tucked home from close range to equalise as his side came way with a deserved point.
The Blucerchiati's first defeat on the road came in Week 7. Chievo snatched the win in the 87th minute when Di Michele made it 2-1, after Maresca's strike had cancelled out Thereau's opener. That was when Samp's troubles began and another 2-1 away defeat soon followed at Parma: Eder's late penalty was mere consolation after Amauri's double had put the hosts firmly in control. A third away defeat came at Inter, where our next opponents initially went in front through Munari in the 20th minute, only for their half-time lead to be overturned in the second period as the Nerazzurri ran out 3-1 winners.
Samp's crisis plummeted to new depths in Palermo, where they lost 0-2 with both goals coming after the break. More than the scoreline it was the performance that gave the impression of a team that had totally lost their way. They managed to pick themselves up though and seemed to be getting back on track with some strong home displays, their 2-2 draw in Florence offering further reason for optimism. But the upturn was short-lived and in Week 17, after Maresca had put Ciro Ferrara's side ahead from the spot in Sicily, Catania turned the game on its head in the second half to win 3-1.
Former Juventus man Ferrara was sacked following the game and Delio Rossi was brought in to replace him. Sampdoria have only played one match with the new coach in charge, a 0-1 defeat to Lazio at the Marassi before the Christmas break.
The Blucerchiati currently find themselves in 15th place, just two points above the drop zone.
