Millions of Italian youngsters returned to school today for the start of the new academic year.
For 82 of these pupils, however, it was a particularly special moment, as they marked the beginning of a unique venture in Italy.
By stepping inside the purpose-built classrooms, academy prospects from the Giovanissimi and Allievi sides became the first students of Juventus College, the club’s in-house educational centre located at the training ground in Vinovo.
After spending last week adapting to their new environment and getting to know the teachers, today saw the youngsters conduct their first lessons at the innovative development.
Welcoming the students into their new reality were Andrea Agnelli and Giuseppe Marotta, with the latter taking the opportunity to outline the importance of Juventus College in relation to the club’s long-term ambitions.
“We’re the first in Italy to embark on this particular venture,” stated Marotta. “Many families entrust their children with us and we have the responsibility to ensure their sporting development ties in with their development as a human.”
Juventus College aims to incorporate players’ football commitments into a steady and effective academic syllabus. Set up in collaboration with the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation and with teaching guidance from the Edoardo Agnelli International Institute, the school’s study cycle begins this year with classes in the first three years: prima, seconda and terza superiore (ages 14-16).
