I think my version of events is more likely though, don't you? What he described was basically nonsensical, like many dreams we all have had. I've woken up from dreams feeling fantastic and wanting to go back, many times, especially when I was a youth. I've met people I looked up to. Our conscience takes us to these happy places. What I find most interesting is why this happened when the kid is facing death. Is it a natural response, do we all experience it? If you were to die instantly I'd say not. I can see how overpowering it would be and how you might feel the need to be explain it in a paranormal way.
I don't want to look like I am trampling on this kid because of course it's extremely sad for him and his family that he's dead and all, but I find it also quite sad in a way how people become more religious when faced with death. It's impossible to speak concisely about the afterlife and near death experiences because of their very nature, but we do know a fair bit about dream states and various levels of consciousness. Certain chemical releases in my brain can make me believe I am riding a pink dinosaur or take me to utopia, and they can feel as real as any sober or waking state.
