Inter have officially confirmed that Fabio Cannavaro is about to sign for the Nerazzurri, beating competition from Milan and Juventus.

The official Inter website revealed the shock news late Wednesday evening ahead of the Trofeo Birra Moretti tournament against Juventus and Chelsea.

“At this moment,” read the statement, “Fabio Cannavaro’s move from Parma to Inter is in the final stages.”

The news came as a surprise to the Italian press, as up until this evening only Juve and Milan had been earmarked as contenders for the Azzurri captain.

The San Siro side had been in talks with Alessandro Nesta for several months, but could not reach an agreement with Lazio for the £37m-rated defender.

Instead it appears that Coach Hector Cuper has settled on Italian international Cannavaro as a suitable reinforcement for the defence.

Parma had demanded £25m for the 28-year-old, but Juve and Milan had been unwilling to go above £15m.

According to www.soccerage.com and inter's official website, cannavaro has signed for inter. Juve's defense appeared 2 be very shaky in the birra morretti trophy and some gaps need 2 be filled. Inter have done a good job of filling the hole Gresko made in their defence.
In the tournament we lacked creativity. We've had the same problem since zidane left. Inter mean business next year and well if it was hard trying to score on a team with gresko, try now with cannavaro!!!

Well its sad to see, we always seem to talk about ti but never do it, by big i mean, well maybe Inter's strenghtening will amount to nothing but it sure gives their fans new hope , but we just hope small buys will be enough.

At the end of the seaon we will find out who is right and who is wrong

What a bummer, Canna is a class player and Inter are going to be a tough team next season.

This lack of creativity worries me for our CL campaign. We need someone who will run at defenses.

well nesta and chivu still up for grabs
Nesta perhaps, Chivu, no way! Both the Ajax management and himself have stated that he will remain at Ajax for one more season at least...

This is going to be a tough season now when Inter have the three of the worlds absolute best attackers, maybe the world's best goalkeeper and an excellent defender, and they still have Christiano Zanetti. They bought Cannavaro very cheap in my opinion, if they would have bought him last year it would probably have been the double.
I think it would be good for Italian football and Juventus if Inter wins a title this season, so maybe this is good news.
