Movie Talk (New Films, Old Films... doesn't matter)

The old thread is loading really really slow. So if our beloved mods don't mind to close the old one and make this one sticky that would be swell.

    I don't mind.

Sometimes I have to refresh it 2-3 times before it loads.

I had some problems with the old move thread, sometimes I just can't open it anyhow. It gets better later, though.
Pirlo has no equal in Europe, Vidal is a champion. And Marchisio, though little noticed, when he is one hundred per cent [he too] is a champion.

Harsh Times was a good movie, Bale was brilliant in it.

Just watched Bangkok Dangerous. Slightly above average movie, the ending was extremely poor and ruined the film imo.

Okay, I've locked that old thread and stickied this. It's no big deal.

    Recent movies for me:

Brazil - oddball satire, almost like 1984 written by Douglas Adams (and in fact it was written by ex-Python Terry Gilliam and the brilliant playwright Tom Stoppard)

    Slumdog Millionare
    - overhyped, it's a disappointingly trite story, more poverty porn for fat westerners. Yet another movie where the hero wins the day (and the girl) not out of skill or hard work, but because of destiny. Morally bankrupt, but with just enough style that you probably won't notice.

The Wild Bunch - one of the classic westerns. I think I'll need to see it again to really appreciate it.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane - a horror lacking in scares or tension, and with a twist which neither I nor the friends I watched it with saw coming, but which didn't actually surprise any of us. Utterly meaningless - even more so than most horrors - and a failure as a spectacle.

I have been planning to watch Brazil for quite some time now. I never was in the mood. What movie can it be compared to so I know in what mood I would start it?

Boogie Nights- love it. Watched it again last night for the first time in quite a few years and i like it more now than i ever did. Its dark and disturbing but can still be quite funny and is seriously underated imo.

There isn't a comparison. Though some might say it's a bit like A Clockwork Orange meet Dune.
