Rijkaard takes Galatasaray post

Frank Rijkaard has been appointed technical director of Turkish side Galatasaray, replacing Bulent Korkmaz.

The 46-year-old had been out of football since leaving his post as Barcelona coach at the end of the 2007/2008 season.

Rijkaard, a former Dutch international, took over at Barcelona in 2003 and won La Liga in 2005 and 2006, as well as the Champions League in 2006.

He also had a two-year spell as Holland coach from 1998-2000.

Born in 1962 in Amsterdam Rijkaard began his football career at Ajax professional team when he was 17. Having played in Ajax for seven years (1980-87) he experienced three championships there and lifted the Cup Winners Cup with them.

For a short period of time he was loaned out to Real Zaragoza before being transferred to Milan in 1988 where he became a football legend during the five football seasons (1988-93) he played. He won league two championships in Serie A, two European Championships, two UEFA Super Cups and two Intercontinental Cups.

Rijkaard returned to Ajax in 1993 for two years and ended his career as a football player there after winning two championships. He was a significant player of Dutch National Team as well.

In 1998 Rijkaard’s coaching career has begun in the Netherlands national team as assistant coach under Guus Hiddink and lasted until 2000. He coached Sparta Rotterdam during 2001-2002 season and signed a contract with Barcelona as the football manager in the beginning of 2003-2004.

Turkish clubs are spending like crazy lately

Besiktas bought Matteo Ferrari from Genoa.

Fenerbahce were buying Poulsen until he rejects their 4m per year offer. They are after Onyewu.

Galatasaray bought Abdul Kader Keita from Lyon.

Even relegation battlers Ankaragucu could manage to sign Darius Vassel on free transfer.

"Djibril Cisse has signed a four-year deal with Panathinaikos to complete his £7m move from Marseille."

Cissé + Greece? Now that's pimpin', pimpin'
What the hell is wrong with Panathinaikos spending money like rain.

Nothing much to report in Belgium so far. Anderlecht have loaned a CB from Fiorentina, Ondrej Mazuch, anyone knows him?
In Standard, Defour, Witsel and Jovanovic are linked with a lot of European clubs.

Dick Advocaat signed for the Belgian NT, though. He'll start in January.
