A host of Premiership clubs are reported to be monitoring FC Basel's in-demand Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo.

The 19-year-old is already a full international with some 15 caps and two goals to his name and wore the number ten shirt for Ecuador at the Copa America over the summer.

He joined Basel during the 2005/06 season from Rocafuerte FC in his homeland when aged just 17.

By the following season he had forced his way into the first-team picture and managed seven goals from a total of nine league starts as Basel were pipped to the Swiss title by FC Zurich.

This term the powerful 6'1 hit-man has been a regular in Christian Gross' table-topping side and has chipped in with four league goals and a further strike in the Uefa Cup.

His burgeoning talents have seen the likes of Everton, Juventus and Milan credited with an interest, with Carlo Ancelotti's side reportedly failing with a bid last summer.

Basel look certain to face a fight to retain Caicedo's services when the transfer window reopens in January with scouts from Europe's biggest leagues having headed to Switzerland in increasing numbers to check on his progress first-hand.

His agent in England Saif Rubie is aware of interest in the South American and admits that the chance to test himself in England would prove tempting for Caicedo.

"We are conscious that a number of top Premiership teams know about this player and how well he has done for Basel," Rubie told skysports.com.

"We have already had an inquiry from Milan over the summer. If an English side were to make an offer then Felipe would be interested to hear what they have to say.

"However, in the meantime he is focused and determined to help Basel in both their league and Uefa Cup campaigns."

Caicedo is due to start for Basel in their UEFA Cup match against Norwegian outfit Brann on Thursday.
